The Legend of A Link to the Spoons
A Link to the Spoons is a disability-centered blog and educational website with a focus on advocacy, accessibility, decolonization, sharing resources, and connecting Community.
No matter where you’re at in your disability adventure -whether you’re just starting out and are still learning the ropes, or have leveled up to being a pro at battling systemic barriers- this space is for you. Our quest is to help disabled people connect, share stories of our thoughts and experiences, and provide resources for Community members to use for their own self-advocacy; all with a bit of nerdy flair, naturally. We believe that knowledge is power, gatekeeping is for trolls, and sharing is what strengthens Community.
While our website is dedicated to serving and connecting the Disabled Community, we also welcome parents and guardians of disabled children, family members and friends, support workers and caregivers, medical professionals, educators of every level, allies, and beyond into this space to learn and effectively support the disabled people in your life. It is of great importance to be conscious of the intersectionality that disability has with every other minority group, so we are deeply committed to ensuring this is a safe space for ALL marginalized people.
The ALTTS website has been a great way to transition more personal/detailed content and art away from larger social media platforms that exploit and steal from disabled artists and content creators. Our original Facebook page had over 6,700 wonderful followers before it was removed, and we’re very much looking forward to growing our Community here.
We’re elated that you’ve stopped by our website, and truly hope you’ve found value in our content during your visit.
A Link to the Spoons, LLC
In early 2025, we officially filed our business registration with the State of Utah so that we may better serve disabled people across the state by educating and consulting local businesses on compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, along with other applicable accessibility laws/codes. With over a decade of experience as a consultant and accessibility expert, our founder has helped numerous businesses across the Western U.S. with accessible design and modifications, the reasonable accommodations process, mediation/dispute resolution, and employee training. Unlike many larger consulting companies and construction contractors, A Link to the Spoons, LLC is disabled-owned and operated— we have the unique ability to personally evaluate accessibility by way of using actual mobility devices and providing training based on lived experiences. Our founder has extensive knowledge of the technical specifications set forth by federal, state, and local laws and codes, and has been offered employment by several other accessibility experts from various state and federal agencies. We have a passion for accessibility and want to work together with businesses to achieve that, rather than seeing businesses risk federal complaints or lawsuits, which can be extremely costly. With 1 in 4 Americans having a disability, that means that no less than 25% of your potential customers/clients/tenants are disabled; hiring A Link to the Spoons, LLC to ensure that everyone can access your business is a worthy investment. See our Services Page for more information about how we can help!
Our Stories
Sydney (they/them), Founder of A Link to the Spoons:
A lifelong ‘complex patient’ and ‘frequent flyer’ of medical facilities, Sydney is no stranger to the frustrations of the U.S. Medical System and running into ADA violations while living their life as a wheelchair user and service dog handler. Being multiply-disabled has helped them understand the various aspects of healthcare and patient advocacy, accessibility, disability rights laws, the reasonable accommodations process, and much more. Having been mentored by some of the most prominent disability advocates and dedicating the past 10+ years to studying accessibility laws and codes, technical specifications, and best practices in the industry, they have become an expert in accessibility. They’ve consulted businesses of all types, work closely with federal, state, and local government entities, and have been featured on various podcasts and livestreams. Sydney is also a professional service dog trainer who has had multiple service dogs -past and present- of their own, and specializes in service animal advocacy.
Chris (he/him), Author & Editor:
Partner to Sydney, and late-diagnosed AuDHDer with multiple physical disabilities to boot. When he’s not hard at work in the HVAC industry, he’s learning the ins and outs of disability rights and self-advocacy, while assisting Sydney with medical appointments, service dog training, brainstorming, and editing.
